Macabre Laughter – Composition

About This Work
A pale slash cuts the canvas off-center—something between a grin and a gash, skull-like but refusing to settle.
Everything feels so compressed in here, held. That jagged line at the top throws you down into those broken shapes at the center. It’s like seeing a mouth, or a skull, but it never quite settles into one thing. Look how the deep, bruised violets and smoky earth tones pull against that stark white. The paint itself is so restless—thin, nervous lines scratched over thick, scarred passages. And the light feels indirect, almost ghostly, sharpening the unease. Nothing holds still. The edges blur and then snap. A held disquiet sits over the whole surface, the kind of laughter that carries no relief.
