Makrinitsa from the Church Upward

From the church steps, Makrinitsa rises in layers—stone, tile, stone—until the rooftops give way to distant lavender hills.

There's such a deep stillness here, the kind of quiet that belongs only to late afternoon. Your gaze starts low, on the stonework, and just follows the slope as it lifts through the houses. Whitewashed walls catch the low sun, throwing long shadows across the tiled roofs. Way in the distance, the hills soften to lavender. The paint itself seems to feel the different surfaces—smooth for plaster and sky, but drier and more broken for stone and leaves. Edges are sharpest down by the church, then seem to dissolve into the heights. A long quiet rests over the whole village as the light begins to settle.
