Santorini, Sunset

About This Work
Santorini's caldera catches the last of the sun, orange dissolving into indigo above a ridge of pale cubes.
The warmth here belongs to just this one hour. See how the white buildings cling to the cliffside, their rooftops carrying your eye out toward the sea. That deep orange and pink bleeds upward, meeting the indigo of dusk, while the water below cools from turquoise to deep cobalt. And the buildings hold all that clean white and blue against the heat of the sky. The paint itself feels different, doesn't it? So smooth up there, but you can almost feel the texture on those stucco walls. The light comes in so low, stretching those soft violet shadows between the houses. A hush settles over the cliffs, the kind that arrives only when the day is letting go.
