Arachova with Snow
MK1849
About This Work
Snow settles over the mountain village of Arachova, softening rooftops and pathways in a deep quiet.
Clustered stone houses with red-tiled roofs stand at the center, their warm ochre walls a contrast to the pale blues and grays of the landscape. Sloping eaves and distant ridges create diagonals that lift toward Mount Parnassus, veiled in soft haze. Cool tones shape the scene—whites and muted shadows form the drifts—but an amber glow from windows and the terracotta of the roofs suggest life within the chill. The brushwork feels varied: smooth blends for the sky and far peaks, thicker strokes for the texture of snow and masonry. Details like window frames and bare branches ground the view in an observed reality, while layered whites give the snow a physical depth. The rectangular frame holds the alpine moment, balancing careful detail with open air. Stillness settles over the hushed streets and the muffled light.
