Florence Area, Green Field
M1976
About This Work
A dove-gray Florentine sky presses down over the field: olive and sage laid in long horizontal bands, a terracotta rooftop dissolving at the haze line.
The eye enters low through the foreground grasses and drifts toward a faint center-right horizon, where distant shapes settle into haze. Olive and sage carry the field, broken by patches of ochre and muted umber along soil paths, while the sky reads in dove-gray with the faintest cerulean wash. A breath of burnt sienna marks something far off, perhaps a rooftop among trees. The brushwork shifts as it travels: stippled and broken in the near grass, smoother and thinned through the upper register, edges blended where land meets sky. Diffused daylight falls from the upper left, laying long, gentle shadows across the contours without sharpening them. The quiet of the open country settles over everything like weather.
