Makrinitsa, Two Yellow Trees
M1997
About This Work
Those two yellow trees are so bright against the slope, catching the last clean light. The hillside holds a quiet weight.
The warmth in this light feels so specific—like a single afternoon held in place. See how your eye follows the trees up, then drifts back across the pale rooftops and stone walls to those soft blue ridges? That intense yellow sings against the warm ochre of the masonry and the cool slate of the shadows. The paint on the foliage is thick, built up in little touches, while the distant village softens, receding gently into haze. Light comes in low from the side, stretching the shadows. The air feels still, as if time has paused to listen.
