Hydra in Rain
MK718
About This Work
A soft rain descends on Hydra, sheathing the whitewashed village in the hush of a gray sky and stones that glisten with water.
Sea and shore find a balance beneath low clouds, where terracotta roofs and shuttered windows line narrow paths sloping toward the harbor. The slant of wet rooftops and slick cobblestones forms pathways that move gently seaward. There, idle fishing boats are moored, their masts rising into the damp air. A palette of steely blues, soft grays, and muted ochres describes the diffused light of the afternoon; faint reflections tremble in puddles and on damp walls, deepening the scene’s calm. The forms of domed churches and clustered houses ground the scene in its place, while the absence of people suggests a life paused by the weather’s gentle hold. Stillness settles over stone and water.
