About This Work

Cubic houses climb the Sifnos hillside, their flat roofs layered one above the next beneath a hard cobalt sky.

There’s a deep quiet to this place, a stillness that belongs only to the sun. You can almost feel the climb up through the village, past pale walls and tilted roofs, until you meet that slice of cobalt sea. The whole town breathes in whitewash and warm earth tones, set against the blues pressing in at the edges. See how the paint is laid on? So smooth on the buildings, like flat planes of light. But the ground is different, looser, letting the dry shrubs through. Little ridges of thick paint catch the light on the sun-bleached walls. Even the shadows feel clean, just cool shapes giving everything its form. A quiet settles over the village, the slow rhythm of island afternoons.
