Sunset in Skyros
MK364
About This Work
Skyros catches its last orange and deep red just as the lavender begins to move in from the edges.
A quiet settles over the whole island at this hour. That low horizon opens everything up, giving all that color room to breathe. The island’s rocky coast and simple white houses hold the lower edge of the painting, and see how the sloping roofs and cliffs all seem to point toward the light? Those warm tones from the sky find their way down here, too—answering the cool greys of the stone and the sea. The shadows are growing long and soft. And the sea moves in quiet, horizontal sweeps. Dusk settles over the island, slow and unhurried, holding the last warmth before night.
