About This Work
Soft ochre ground meets a band of muted blue at the horizon. The air feels slow over open country.
The land opens in clear horizontal bands—foreground rising into low vegetation, then settling into pale hills along the back. Earth tones carry the work: ochre and raw umber meeting dusty olive green, lifted by cooler slate and washed blue toward the sky. Brushwork shifts as the eye travels back, thicker and more broken in the foreground grasses and stones, smoother and thinly scumbled in the distance where atmospheric haze takes over. Light arrives soft and lateral, modeling the rises without sharp shadow, suggesting the long hours of late afternoon. A gentle quiet holds the valley, resting at the edge of evening.
